Method 1 : (Algebra)
You can set x as intial number of choclate and then go through the steps and make an equation of x which is equal to 0 (all choclates finished)
Method 2: (solving with working backward)
At the end of 2nd day, he gave 4 to his sister and then 2 remained. Means, before giving her, there was 6 remained. ... this way go to backward to the initial point.
(WARNING : be careful when you go to the position wheres written “ate 2/3 portion of” , “ate 1/3 portion of” .)

You could solve this problem backward.
Example: On the 3rd day he had 2 chocolates left. And on the 2nd day after eating 2/3 parts of the chocolates he had given 4 chocolates to his sister. That means before giving chocolates to his sister he had 4+2=6 chocolates. But he had eaten 2/3 part of the chocolates. That means The value of 1/3 parts of the chocolates on the 2nd day is 6.
